Scenic reading on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Dachau concentration camp

To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp by soldiers of the U.S. Army, the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site has put together a reading with contemporary accounts. Quotes from letters, diary entries, interviews, testimonies and newspaper articles by liberators, survivors and other contemporary witnesses provide an insight into the dramatic circumstances surrounding April 29th, 1945. After an introduction by Dr. Gabriele Hammermann, Director of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, pupils from the Bavarian International School will read these poignant personal accounts in the cinema of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.

The event will be recorded and made available online by the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.

The scenic reading will take place after the unveiling of a memorial plaque in memory of the soldiers of the 45th U.S. Division at the former Jourhaus in the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial.
